The Perfect Country Armchair

The perfect comfy, country style armchair shouldn’t be hard to find. There are plenty of options – its the choosing that’s hard!

That’s why we have done some research and come up with some great chairs to help you find the perfect one for your home. Our mission is to help people live the country lifestyle, and the furnishings in a home play a large part in this.

Living the country lifestyle means laid-back, relaxed comfortable style which suits every member of the family. The armchair has to work hard to keep everyone happy. It gets used by the dog (when mum isn’t looking), the kids are likely to tumble over it, and Dad presides in it when the evenings come around. It needs to be large enough for family story-time, able to sustain spills, wear & tear and much, much more. So as you can see the task of finding this armchair can be quite daunting.

Chelsea 1 Seater – Vintage Cigar

You can’t go past the trusty but timeless aged tan leather. This chair is often seen as a ‘Dad’s’ chair, but we can guarantee that the whole family will enjoy it. The leather is soft and supple, perfect for snuggling down on a winter evening in front of the fire with a blanket or two. This one is from Coco Republic – however there are many sizes and shapes out there to choose from. This armchair would perfectly suit our Kimberley farmhouse, or our spacious family home, the Hawkesbury.

French Linen Wingback

The classic natural linen wing-back is beautiful, the epitome of style, fitting in perfectly with the laid-back yet still sophisticated country home. This wing-back  is from Provincial Home Living and is a really great size. It’s perfect for the Mitchell, grand & elegant with its many sets of french doors. The linen fabric is soft, yet very hard-wearing, and the internal filling softens over time with use. Its the type of chair that ages gracefully and will still look fabulous in ten years time.

Hans Wegner Papa Bear Chair & Ottoman

For a slightly more contemporary, or maybe mid-century style – why not try the famed Papa Bear chair, available from Matt Blatt? This chair has unique shape & form, and it looks large enough to curl up in as well.  It even comes in different colours so its customisable to suit your needs. Our latest design the Merrï is the perfect partner for this slightly more contemporary chair. Plus an added bonus – it comes with a footstool!

Morgan Armchair

For a smaller, traditional town home a button-back turned leg armchair is just perfect. It is quaint, yet still comfy and durable. This chair would suit the ‘Glenelg‘ really well – small enough to fit, but large enough to make its beautiful presence known. As with the other examples above, this chair is a neutral colour which gives great scope for interior decorating. You can change soft furnishings (cushions, throws, rugs, etc.) around to refresh things, but the armchair is timeless and will seamlessly move with the changes. This particular chair is from Home Decorators in America, however you will find a similar one at Domayne.

No beautiful country home is complete without a large comfortable armchair. In front of the fireplace, or in a sunny corner of the library, the armchair is symbolic of the relaxed country lifestyle. Sink into aged leather or snuggle down on soft linen, the fabrics and styles are endless, but don’t be disheartened – use our examples as inspiration to start your search for the one suited to your family, home & the country lifestyle!
